About the webmasterI wrote this page for everyone who desperately wants to know who's the guy behind this website. My name is James Mostert and I'm from The Netherlands. I was born in 1982 (you can do the math yourself on what my age is now, that'll save me from updating this page every year... thanks for understanding eh ;). I've been travelling on and off since I was 17, and I expect to keep on wandering the world for a long time to come. I live in a sea freight container in Amsterdam (yeah, there's a story behind that but it's not a very interesting one), and I study at the University of Amsterdam. I'm a full time Information Sciences student, and a part time Spanish student. I also have a part time job at an international real estate company. All of these things usually pretty much fill up most of my time, but whenever I have the chance, you can find me & my backpack on the good old road. Obviously, I love to travel. By now I've visited more than 20 countries in three continents, and I hope to get those numbers further up (a lot further up) in the near future. When I'm not travelling or studying or working, I'm probably sleeping or juggling or diving or walking or cycling or reading or watching a movie or listening to music or smoking cigarettes or drinking coffee or beer. Or I might be working on this website. WorldBackpackers.net started out as just an idea in my head while travelling. I wrote down my ideas on paper, and once back at home I learned HTML and built the first version of WorldBackpackers.net. It started out as a small hobby website, and its content and number of visitors have been growing nicely ever since. This website is the biggest online project I've ever initiated, and I can't even begin to count the number of hours I've spent on building this baby. I'm fluent in Dutch and English, trying to become fluent in Spanish, and I used to understand German - which perhaps with a little practice will come back to memory again someday. I also know a lot of small sentence in many other languages, mostly fowl language, pick-up lines and how to order beer. There are still many many many countries and cities I want to visit. I still really want to take the Tran-Siberian express across Russia and Mongolia into China, and then continue southward through southern Asia down to Australia & New Zealand. And that just might be my next big road adventure. But then again, I also really want to see Mexico... Costa Rica... Cuba... all of South America... Canada... and... well, my list of places-I-still-want-to-see has simply grown outrageously large, so I won't even bother to write it down. There you have it. Now you know a lot more about the guy behind this website than 10 minutes ago. Hope you're happy with this wonderful self-description. Oh yeah, just for the record: most Dutch people do not spend their entire day smoking weed, those are just the tourists. We also do not wear clogs, we do not live in wind mills, and we do not all grow tulips in our back garden. I mean, c'mon, that's just silly. C ya down the road!
