Hi, I will be travelling with my girlfreind in december to australia and we will be there for 8 months. I have heard that you need a certain amount of cash in your bank account before you gain entry to the country. However, I cannot find out how much this is, or even if it is 100% true!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Hi Brian,
There was a certain amount of AUD you needed to bring to australia to be able to do the work&travel thing (I assume this is the visa with which you'll be getting into Oz?) Nowadays, the funds requirement isn't AS strict. The immigration website states:
You must have access to sufficient funds to support yourself for the initial stage of your holiday. Generally, AUD$5,000 may be regarded as sufficient, but the amount may vary depending on your length of stay and the extent of your travel. You should also have a return or onward ticket or the funds for a fare to depart Australia.
You may be asked to provide evidence. Evidence may include a certified copy of a bank statement and an air ticket out of Australia.
It's not very common that they'll actually check your funds at the airport (but hey, it's not impossible either).
Have a read at http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/working-holiday/417/eligibility-first. htm#d and http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/working-holiday/index.htm for more details.
