Hi -

Four of my friends and I are planning on backpacking Argentina, Chile and Peru next summer (their winter) for 4-5 weeks. Our ages range from 17-19 (2 guys, 3 girls). Do you think it is safe for us to travel in South America? Any advice for us? Thank you so much!

Jo

Yeah, it is pretty safe if you're aware of what's not safe, be shure to take advice from the people at the hostels you're staying at, but of course, people get robbed and stabbed and shot everyday, so what's safe

Hi there... look, as I can say, in Chile, you shouldn´t have mayor problems... people in Stgo might not look very friendly, but they are... and if you inted to go downsouth, you would find people is even nicer... and more with young people.. so don´t ya worrie ´bout that...
The other guy is right about getting robbed and stuff..

Matias, un Chileno.

I travelled to Argentina in the beginning of this year with a friend of mine. Lots of people told me not to go there cos of violent muggings etc but my mom is a member of red24 (they give tailored travel advice) so I got in touch with them.
They told me that Buenos Aires is suffering from a crime wave due to the current economic situation, which has led to an increase in petty crime, armed robbery and risks to personal security in the major cities of Argentina. Visitors are advised not to take unofficial taxis and should be wary of places where money circulates, such as casinos. Visitors should also avoid walking around alone or at night. Crime mostly affects locals more than tourists; however, opportunistic crime does occur. Express kidnappings are frequent in Buenos Aires. Victims are taken off the streets and held to a ransom, which usually involves many withdrawals from ATM’s or until sufficient ransom has been paid by the victim.
Sorry, not to scare you off but these are things that they told me to be aware of when visiting the country.

Have a good trip.

Hi friends.
I read your message about coming to south america, if you come to Chile, Peru and Argentina you have to be very careful , because you know it's south america, you have to be careful about money and how you handle, it if you have an ATM card maybe you can be robbed,or kidnapped, but everything depends on the place you are going to stay and if you have contacts in each country, you're young people.
If you're interested I offer my home as a place where to stay in fact, I have rooms with carpet ,a bathrroom with hot water and breakfast is included only 7 dollars each one, you will be with a family in one of the best districts in Lima Peru, we are located in Surco is near Miraflores and Barranco if you contact us, we can give you information about prices ( buses and planes ) and we can pick you up safely from the airport or the bus terminal. My mother is argentinian and my father was romanian.
If you write us we can send you pictures from our place that is safe and comfortable. Domi and Janni Osain from Perú dcob57@yahoo.com
