I am going to Bangkok on 10th March 2006 and leave Singapore on 31st march 2006. Il probably stay in bangkok for a bit before heading on down.

Has anybody got any advice on the overland part of the trip and where the best places are to stop for a few nights?

Also does anyone know of any good hostels in bangkok and down through?

My only advice is to be careful of the insurgency in southern Thailand. The Thai government has scaled back its troop force in the region, and bombings which once only targetted police and the military are becoming increasingly indiscriminant. I can't go into very good specifics because I've never been in that part of Thailand, but be careful and pay attention to all the common sense when in such areas.

Hi

I am doing the same trip. We are heading to Bangkok in early December and leaving Singapore at New Year. We are planning to get the train from Bangkok down to Ko Samui with a few stopovers on the way. We planned to then get the bus over to Phuket and stay in that area. After seeing all that we are heading to Hat Yai. Now the plan is to take the jungle train down to Singapore via Gemas. The trouble reported in the south is worrying but i am going to make up my mind closer the time. We may just do it, if not we will go via KL.

I cannot wait
