Hey everyone ^.^
Currently a few friends and I are planning on travelling to europe and seeing where things go from there.. I figure a years planning should be sufficient :P Anyways, I was wondering, I hear people talk about camping as a cheap accomodation means, and I planned on doing a lot of camping anyhow. However, I am wondering where you can camp cheaply/free. Does it amount to walking a random wooded area and setting up base camp? Is this legal in many european countries? etc etc.
Thanks

Hi there,
I would like to help you , but you need to rephrase this:
"Does it amount to walking a random wooded area and setting up base camp"
Sorry, but I don't quiet understand what you are refering to.
Base camp? You mean to put your tent any where , where it's not a camping site?
I guess you can do that, but it depend where....You can't go on the side of the highway, for exemple, an dput your tent up.Besides that I wouldn't do because it could be dangerous, since you don't know where you are
Camp sites are cheap any where in the world, but I don't believe there are free ones..

Hi there,
If you planed to travel across Switzerland I can say to you that you cannot camp everywhere, but only in Camp sites. In fact it's not legal to camp in the nature. The prices are not so bad. The problem in Switzerland is the choice of the Camp site, if it's a turistic camp site it'll be more expensive.
But that's a problem of small countries, I don't think that in France or in Germany you'll have problems to camp in the nature (just don't stay too long in the same place) -.-

Hi,
Normally, you may not camp just in the open nature in most European countries.
Anyhow, when I go camping, I ask farmers if I can put my tent somewhere on their ground for one or two days. This almost always works, as long as you don't make a mess or so. Sometimes they even bring you something to eat too
I haven't been everywhere, but it's on my list |
