Hello
I've decided to go backpacking to Europe next February or March, 2007. I know it's still far away but this is going to be the very first time I'm doing this. I quite interested on visiting UK, Denmark, France, Spain, Italy, Ireland, Belgium, Holland, Germany, and every country possible in this area of Europe. I'm form Costa Rica and I would be starting from Spain and finishing in UK.
According to my researches, it's about $50 U.S per day minimun, is that right?
I would like some advices of how to start, info about trains, hostels, and cheaper ways to make this an amazing experience.
I'll appreciate any help. Thanks a lot!!
I'm planning on doing this for 3 months.

There's a good article here
Budget depends entirely on what you want to do, but if you get a interrail/eurail pass, and use hostels etc then you should be able to stay within $50/day pretty easily. Watch the trains in the UK though as they're RIDICULOUSLY expensive!

You will find Eastern Europe a lot cheaper and just as worth while visiting.Bulgaria Croatia,Romania,Ukraine, to mention just a few. Hostel prices in Rom are around 8-13 dollars per night while train travel is very cheap if a little slow.Just a thought for you researching.

Hi Judy,
Regarding your message I'd suggest you to have a look at HostelBookers. You'll find thousands of hostels in Europe where you can stay in.
On the website you could see Hostels are rated by people who have stayed and mostly they are center situated, so I guess this could help you out when having to take a decision.
Also, you can find a lot of information about events, activities, travel news...
Hope this information be usefull for you.
Have a nice trip to Europe!!!

Hi Judy,
I'm from Belgium.
Concerning the costs in Europe:
UK, Ireland and Scandinavia are the most expensive parts of Europe. Eastern Europe (Poland, Czech Republic,...) is the cheapest.
For travelling by train I should take an Eurail ticket ( http://www.eurail.com ). For long trips, You should also consider flying, Ryanair a cheap company which flies all over Europe ( http://www.ryanair.com ).
In Eastern Europe, you can easiely get a room in a hostel/dorm for 10$. In the rest of Europe you will at least pay 15$-20$.
Cheap dinner can be found in university areas.
I hope this helps, Enjoy Europe!!
I haven't been everywhere, but it's on my list |
