So, my holiday of a month and a half has begun. Two days ago I left NL and took the bus all the way to San Sebastian (frikkin long and exhausting trip by the way :S ). Its a beautiful city, one of the most beautiful Ive ever seen. The whole town is built around a bay, and surrounded by hills. Very well kept, a great beach, good night life, and so on, and so on. The weather is great as well - especially compared to NL :P , no clouds and about 25 or 30 degrees Celsius (Im sunburned, that says it all :D ). Having a blast so far, leaving tomorrow for Burgos, then to Madrid.

The main plan is to head southward, cross the street of Gibraltar and explore Morocco for a while (never been there, wonder how itll be), and then head back up along the Spanish eastcoast. Of course nothing is planned, and Ill see how everything will turn out. Ill try to post some updates about my travels here once in every while. Going for a swim in the sea now, later! :D

Well, it´s been about a week since my first travel report thingy. I´m now in Cadiz, way in the south of Spain. What I´ve been doing since San Sebastian is in short: Burgos, Madrid for four nights, Toledo, Sevilla for two nights, and now Cadiz.

Madrid was absolutely great, what a blast, the city is huge and everything in it is huge. So much to see, so much to do, had a hell of a time there. Sevilla was quite nice as well - except for the extreme temperatures - I ran into some people who I had already met in Madrid, and we had a fun evening of eating paella, drinking sangria, and going to a bullfight (how spanish can you go! ;))

Loving everything so far, will be crossing Gibraltar´s Strait in a day or two and visit Morocco for about two weeks, met somebody from Austria and we´ll be travelling together through Morocco.

Thats all for now, gotta go. Greets!

In morocco now, just spent two nights in Tangier, the portal to africa filled with scams, chaos, mint tea, coffee houses and so on and so on. Took the bus today - my worst busride ever - to Chefchaouen, small city with loads of backpackers. Totally chill here, met some travellers who i met in spain as well. Loving this place, think ill stick around for a few days.

Moroccan keyboards are totally different froml the ones im used to, so im going to keep it short. Am alkready working on travel stories which will of course be published on this website zhen im bqck:

Weather is hot, but bearable, and everything is dirt cheap here. Hostel: 2.50 Euros for example. Amazing. Laterz all 111

Whoa, havent written here for a long time (and i seriously wonder if anybody even reads this but well whatever). In the end I spent about 10 days in Morocco and visited 6 cities in total, which was definitely not enough time, but it was so friggin hot and i really wanted to get back to spain because i love that country. So took the boat back, stayed subsequently in Cadiz, Gibraltar, Malaga and am currently in Granada.

Granada is one of the greatest cities so far. The atmosphere is great, it has the amazing Alhambra with the most beatiful palace I´ve ever seen, everything is really cheap, and if you order a dink you´ll get tapas with it for free (a great way to go out and get a free meal at the same time!)

The hostel is the best hostel (Rambutan - www.rambutangranada.com ) I´ve stayed in so far, the location and atmosphere are amazing, and I´ve already spent 5 days here, just relaxing and partying and having a blast. Unfortunately I´ll be going back to my home country in less than 10 days, so I´m gonna have to start moving northward again. The plan is to visit Alicante, Valencia and Barcelona before returning.

Back in Amsterdam since this afternoon. Left Barcelona - oh what a friggin great partyhardyhardy awesome beautiful city - at 0500 AM after not sleeping but just partying until the last possible moment. Damn, the weather here is terrible, rainy and windy and cold... I wish I was still in Spain!!

Now come the heaps of mail to get through, the university administration, the bank account problems, omfg.. back to reality again... Time has flown by and I'm missing life on the road already.

It's been a great journey and Spain absolutely rules, I totally love that country. When I've got the time I'll attempt to write some travel stories and post them online here. Need to get some sleep now as I'm dog tired.

Cheers and later, James

Well some people who are really interested, if not to say truly concerned, find these forum entries very handy to find out about your whereabouts and how you're doing! ;)

I've placed a number of pics online of this trip. You can find them at http://www.worldbackpackers.net/stories/summer-spain-morocco.html

I'll try to find time to write a few travel stories too and place them online, but unfortunately I'm really really busy right now with uni and all... :(

Let me know what you think of the photos!

Hi Katja,

When I was in Spain I mainly travelled by bus. It´s quite cheap and very easy, no need for reservations or anything. So I´d suggest taking a night bus from granada to barcelona, thus saving on a night of accomodation.

Don´t know much about camping, cause I havent done that in Spain. I do know that the camping sites are usually a few kilometres from the city away, and public transportation to and from can be a bit of a hassle.

Hope this helps!

James

Hi James,
I am planning on backbacking through Spain, Italy, Germany, France, and Poland next spring....
What are the best parts to hit in Spain?? I absolutely love the picture of San Sebastian and Madrid sounds like a blast. I'm only planning on staying in each country for about 3 days tops and want to make sure I see the best of it. What do you suggest?

Thanks!
Michele

Hi Michele,

Wow, 3 days per country? Are you serious?

The parts I personally liked best about Spain would be:
- San Sebastian and Cádiz becuase of their laid back atmosphere and their wonderful beaches
- Granada because of its heritage and the amazing Alhambra
- Barcelona for its party atmosphere and the wonderful architecture of Gaudí

Honestly, 3 days won´t be enough to even sniff at the diversity that Spain contains... Nevertheless, I hope this info helps you out a bit, and I wish you a great time on the road!
