Hi

I'm going on a two week trip to Budapest and Romania soon and am hoping to do it on as low a budget as possible.

Can anyone tell me how much daily costs are likely to be?
I'm planning on travelling around quite a lot and staying in budget hotels.

I'd also like to go to a football match while I'm there, anyone know how much that might cost, how to get tickets etc?

Are there any MUST SEES in Romania?
I'm flying to Budapest then I was thinking of gettting the train through Transylvania and stopping off in a couple of places then heading down to Bucharest and the Black Sea Coast? Is the coast still hot in September?

Thank you very much for any information you can give!

Hello i live in Romania so maybe i can help a little. There are to many must sees in Romania Maramures,Buchovena,Sighisoira,Sibieu,Brasov and Bran castle.Daily costs here for a hostel around 8-13 euros, trains are cheap as are buss but trains are also very slow except the express service.Football means you have to go to Bucharest to see Steaua,Dinamo or Rapid tickets aze available at the stadium and not that expensive.Other premier teams are in Cluj,Bistrita,Galati,Constanta and Bacau. If you have to stay in Bucharest try Butterfly hostel near the North station i hear it is good value.
As for the Black Sea coast i am afraid to say it isnt that great, very crowded, expensive and lots of communist style hotels,Vama is probably the best of a not very good bunch,Bulgaria is said to be much better and just over the boarder.

The hotels in Romania are quiet expensive an dthe quality is a bit low.
I would sugest to stay at a "pensiune". It's like a smaller hotel, family owned kind and they (or some of them) have restaurant.
Hotels at sea side are not that good...well last time when I was there it was 4 years ago, but not much of the quality of the services has been improved since than.
Cheaper food you can directly from the market, or super market type of grocery stores. They might me a bit more expensive an dthe qulity lower.
You should see the medieval cities such as:Sighisoara, Sibiu and other in that area, which is Transylavania. Also Bran Castle, or notorious Dracula's castle. They might close this acstle in the near future.Bucharest is nice too, especially Dorobanti area. It's less crowed.Public transportation is awful, very crowed, but it's cheap. By train : it could be dirty inside the trains if you use the regular ones such as "personal"=slow, accelerat" a bit faster, or "rapid"=fast. There is a aster train thogh , which I used and it's very clean. It's called Intercity, but it's about double in price than the rapid train.
More info at :www.cfr.ro compare prices and see which one work for you better. Also you can take the bus, practlically from any city to any city. It's cheaper than the train, but I heard there were many accidents.Romanians drive like crazy .
Another things to see would be the monastiries from Moldavia (Moldova), in Northern Romania, if you like this kind of sighseeings.
Peles Castle is cool too, in the city of Sinaia. They might close this one down too.
I don't know much about the hostels, but I don't really trust the quality of them.
