Hey,
I might hopefully be spending a few days travelling up from catalonia to the dordogne (in southern france) at the beginning of september, with a couple of friends (we would all be first-time backpackers).
I've been looking at trains on the net, and from Barcelona onwards I've been able to find good rail links (Barcelona to perpignan, perpignan to carcassonne… and so on).… however, I may have to start from solsona, a city(?) in inland catalonia. There appears to be no rail station in solsona, at least I can't find any rail information on the net.
Does anyone have experience travelling from solsona to barcelona? Because in the eventuality that I have to make that trip, I'd like to be prepared.
It'll be my first time backpacking so I'd like advice on where to stay. I want to travel cheaply so I've been looking at hostels. I plan to stay one night in barcelona, then in carcassonne (southern france) for one or two nights, then finally in cahors. There appears to be only one hostel in carcassonne and one in cahors, but I don't know if there's anyone who's stayed in those towns who has something to say about them, or whether there's a hotel that would be a better choice. As for barcelona, there are loads of hostels to choose from, so if anyone has recommendations for/warnings against a particular one, that would be cool.
Also, bearing in mind I've not been backpacking before, any general advice would be very much appreciated, with regard to booking trains and hostelling.
I know some spanish and a lot of french, so I think that will help…
Any feedback at all?
~Olivia :-)
