I'd like to make a trip in the spring to backpack across Ireland, from one coast to the other.

Has anyone done something similar to this?

Was finding spots to pitch a tent difficult? What about finding hostels?

Any in particular routes I should take?

Thanks so much!

Catherine-

I just went to Ireland a month ago. I'd recommend staying a couple of nights in Dublin. Hostel wise I'd recommend Jacob's Inn in Dublin. If I were you, I'd order a Lonely Planet book on Ireland...that was basically our bible to getting around Ireland. My room mate went trekking with me across Scotland and Ireland, and we had a blast. Dublin was fun, we ended up doing a walking tour, the hostel had a cork board with events and the tour started there...and it last a few hours...the guy took us to Dublin Castle, Trinity College some other areas of Dublin.

In Ireland we spent two days in Dublin, hopped on the train to Galway, and spent two days in Galway...that place was beautiful. We stayed at the hostel on Quay's street...can't remember the name...there was a lot of activity going on in Galway on Friday and Saturday nights...Galway was just a place the tour guide in Dublin recommended we should go to if we wanted to go off the beaten path and see the coast...if I ever saw that tour guide again, I'd buy him a beer...no wait, a six pack.

Hi...me and my husband were booked on a coach tour around Ireland starting from Dublin. Due to cretain travel constraints we would not be able to make it and we are also not able to cancel the booking. We are booked on Paddywagon Tours and they have a credit for us that is equivalent to 500 pounds. As this is a huge ammount we would like to sell it off at a cheaper rate inorder to cut our losses. Do let me know if you or anyone you would know would be interested in them.
