feargus cooney Member	# Posted: 25 Apr 2007 16:42:12 I've done it as cheap as is possible in Africa, hitchhiking in Zambia, Namibia and South Africa (though I wouldn't do it in SA again) and bush camping as well as staying in hostels and taking local buses. I've also travelled in Asia, which is much cheaper than most African countries, though Africa is still cheap by north American or European standards. I would make sure you've got at least US$500 per month, with a few hundred more for safety for emergencies or luxuries (it's hard to travel for months in the rough and the occasional hotel room with TV is always nice for a break!)
