My girlfriend and I are going RTW in Feb 2007 and we have come up with an interesting way of deciding what we do once we get on the road.....
DIVINATION!!!
We aren't new-age, hairy fairy, crusty types i can assure you! We were just looking for a different way of deciding what to do with our time away and rather than relying on own preconceptions about a place or using the same guide books everyone uses we thought we would try the I Ching.
I read a biography book about Philip K Dick (the sci-fi writer) and it described how he used the I Ching to make decisions about his day to day life, about the direction his writing should take and even how to manage his relationships. It sounded really interesting so I did a bit of investigation....
The I ching is over 3000 years old and is china's most popular form of fortune telling. To make a "prediction" you throw 3 coins 6 times and depending on which way up the coins land you draw either a solid sline or 2 shorter lines. These lines are stacked up in rows of 3 and are arranged into a hexagram shape. There are 64 different combinations. Each of these combinations has a spcific interpretation in which you can possibly find some inspiration about the next direction in which to travel.
Anyone else ever heard of I Ching or used some sort of divination in their travels?? (or is it just me??)
as you think so you are, as you imagine so you become |
