Hi everyone.
I'm starting my first backpack travel this friday (sept. 29). I'm going to vist south california and then, all of the central America. I was simply wondering what should be the right weigh of my backpack when its fully load. Today, I've tried it. it was around 31 pounds. I think that this is a little bit too much. Can you give me advice on that? Thanks you very much!

The less, the better, of course. Health-wise, I believe the rule-of-thumb is that you should never carry more than one-third (33%) of your body weight on your back. 31 pounds (about 14 kg) doesn't sound too bad actually, but if it feels to heavy to yourself, I'd recommend that you'd go through all of your luggage again and decide whether you really need it or not and how it can become lighter. You can find some info and useful links at http://www.worldbackpackers.net/info/pack.html . Also, keep in mind that you will very quickly adjust to the weight of your backpack. After travelling for a week you'll hardly even notice the weight of your backpack anymore!
