My name is markus, im a 19 year old student ( yes another student ) hehe. im finishing my studies in April 2007 and really want to go on and spend 1-2 years travelling the world - starting in Australia, and then traveling back to through the continent, maybe side tracking to Africe on the way. I was wondering if anyone who has already done this sort of this could help me out just with general info, im especially worried about places to stay, in particular where to start - im hoping to work in Australia for a few months when i first get there so that i dont waste too much money too early on. RobN Moderator UK	# Posted: 14 Aug 2006 13:23:16 Sydney is a good place to start, particularly during their winter months (May-September/October) for finding work - there is usually a fair amount of work going round (e.g. office, restaurant, bar etc.). A place I would recommend to stay is Glebe Point YHA, on Glebe Point Road in Glebe. It's an easy bus ride into the city (bus stop right outside the hostel), and you can also walk to the city via Darling Harbour (takes about 40 minutes I think). Glebe YHA also do weekly deals during this time, and you get a number of people on a WHM visa staying there - so it's very easy to meet people, and possibly move into a flat if you wanted to. The youth hostel I mentioned, along with a lot of others in Sydney, receives some available jobs via fax and posts them on their notice board. Travellers Contact Point in the Dymocks Building on George Street is a very good resource as well. Of course, you may want to do some fruit picking during the colder months, as if you do 3 months you can apply for a 2nd WHM visa!
