Hi sorry for the delay in responding. i have never been to Australaisa but here are some tips from other people.
1)YSave a load of money by always asking for a discount with your YHA card in Australia because they are so friendly and unbothered they will often give you a discount regardless if they should!
2) Make sure you pack a jar of marmite (if you are a lover) and a packet of tetley tea bags if you are off to Australia as you can't buy them anywhere.
3) 10 places you might not have thought of visiting in AUSTRALIA:
a. Spend a night at Kings Plains Castle, Glen Innes, NSW.
b. Tamworth, the country music capital of Australia.
c. Yule Fest at the Carrington Hotel in Katoomba, what an experience!
d. Walk amongst wild Kangaroos at Euroka Park in the Blue Mountains.
e. Take a trip on the Zig Zag Railway in Lithgow.
f. Another train journey through the Baron Gorge National Park to Kuranda, the best place to buy your Didgeridoo. Don’t forget to take the Skyrail on the return journey.
g. Step across the Tropic of Capricorn at Rockhampton, Queensland.
h. Take a trip to the Lava Tubes at Undara.
i. See some of the best view points on the east coast along Cunningham’s Pass on the New England Highway.
j. Visit the city of Armidale, its just a wonderful place to dream of living of day.
4) 10 things to do in and around BRISBANE
a. Visit the Botanical Gardens and see if you can find a Sausage Tree.
b. Take a day trip to Australia Zoo, home of the Crocodile Hunter. Make sure you get your seats in the Crocoseum for show time.
c Travel up Mt Coot-Tha for views of the city and amazing sunsets, and if you’re really lucky the most brilliant thunder and lightening storms on the horizon.
d. Take a ferry in the morning and get off at the Quay Side where you can enjoy the biggest and best breakfast of your life.
e. Day trip to Fraser Island where you might catch a glimpse of the purest Australian Dingo’s.
f. Take a trip up the City Hall Tower for views across the CBD.
g. Visit the XXXX factory and take advantage of your free drink tickets. 8. Don’t miss the Ginger Factory at Buderim (Queensland’s biggest free admission theme park), it smells delicious.
h. Spend an evening at the Pig and Whistle, my favourite pub in Brisbane. i. Take a stroll along the boardwalk and see the inland beach and Chinese Pagoda.
j. See Story Bridge illuminated at night, very romantic.
5) 10 things to do in SYDNEY:
a. Before you do anything, visit Sydney Tower to take in the panoramic beauty of the city and harbour.
b. Take a Sydney Showboat cruise from Darling Harbour and dine, dance and party the evening away with the most wonderful city backdrop visible from both port and starboard.
c. People watch from the balcony of Pier 26 whilst you enjoy delicious sea food.
d. Visit Taronga Zoo to capture the most unusual photograph of all, your partner with a Giraffe and Sydney Opera house in the background.
e. Take in Sydney Aquarium and walk amongst the sharks.
f. Stay just one night at the Park Hyatt Hotel. Awake in the morning, pick up the remote control that opens the curtains and there it is, Sydney Opera House from the comfort of your own bed.
g. Take the ferry from Circular Quay to Watsons Bay and enjoy the best fish and chips in the world at Doyles on the Beach.
h. The legendary Sydney Harbour Bridge walk, but don’t worry if you’re scared of heights. Just take the pedestrian route across the bridge for some stunning views of the city and Opera House.
i Take a water taxi from Darling Harbour to the Opera House.
j. Do the full circular route on the Monorail but pick a cool day as it gets very hot in those carriages.
6) To stop jet lag order "No jet lag" tablets from Australia. They are homeopathic tablets that you take every 2 hours and really do work.
