Depending on where you want to travel to, there are a few good things to know.
Probably one of the first things you want to do is buy a hostel membership.
As far as working, obviously you're supposed to have a work visa, but another important thing to note is that some countries require you to have a license to busk.
A big tip to remember is to keep a photocopy of your passport somewhere separate from your passport, as well as with someone back home who can help you out if you get in a rough spot.

I hope you have an amazing trip, I'm incredibly jealous!

I am a 19 year old Canadian girl... somewhat in the same boat. I have alot of travel experience, but non with a working holiday! I am looking at travelling to South East Asia starting May 2010 and then getting a working holiday visa (with the SWAP program) to work in Oz until I can afford to go somewhere else (maybe on a volunteer trip in africa or south america)! If you would like a travel buddy, I am going with a friend, but the more the merrier! If you just want to chat about similar experiences thats cool too! Oz and NZ are great places to start backpacking. Loads of people to meet and everyone is in the same boat. Check out these websites to give you some tips and ideas. I loved Australia and now i'm in New Zealand which is equally as awesome!

Thank for your tips, I'm an american, and i love NZ . I would like to move to New Zealand in the next 5 years. I know the points system rewards you for a degree and training. I am just wondering if there is a quota for each country?

My question is how many Americans are allowed to immigrate to New Zealand each year?
